Heavy on Fashion Eats: Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month & Giveaway!*

Hello all my fashion divas and gurus! I am very happy to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month - September 15 - October 15 with IMUSA and McCormick Spices. I cooked an Hispanic influence meal (actually my first meal ever - with help from my kitchen guru husband Ian from Body by Ian). Check out my slide show of my cooking experience and how I made my first Hispanic meals!

Here is my recipe for my version of Monfongo!
Ingredients
Green plantains 6-8
Head of garlic 1
Olive oil
McCormick Salt from the salt grinder
McCormick Black pepper from the peppercorn grinder
Bacon (Turkey or pork)

How to Prepare Malan's Monfongo
Add the bacon to your pan, and cook until crispy then set aside.
Fill your IMUSA Dutch oven half way with water, add salt cover and bring to a boil.
While the water is boiling, peel your plantains and cut into 2 inch pieces then add to water. Cook plantains until soft; drain (reserving the water into another pot), then add plantains to a large bowl.
Using a IMUSA Wood Mortar and Pestle start mashing your plantains and slowly mixing in your garlic and pork or ham pieces. Spoon in some of the hot liquid reserve if mixture starts to get to sticky.Using a small soup bowl; spoon some of the mixture in. Using a ice cream scoop, place the monfongo on a flat plate and serve immediately.

Here is my verison of Cuban Styled Flank Steak

Homemade Mojo Marinade Ingredients:

1 cup of lemon juice
1/2 of lime juice
1/4 cup of vinegar
1/2 cup of Garlic minced
1/2 cup of Onion minced
Pinch of  kosher salt
Pinch of  McCormick orengano
Pinch of  McCormick ground pepper
1/2 cup of olive oil (extra virgin)

How to Prepare Malan's Cuban Style Flank Steak
Cut the excess fat from the Flank steak. Than score the steak so the marinade can penertate the meat. Place the steak in the Marinade for at least  2 hours (For more intense flavor, marniade the flank steak overnight) . Place the steak along with marinade into the broiler, oven or grill. My husband and I placed the steak into the baking pan. Please don't forget to preheat the oven for 400 degrees. Depending on your oven, cook the for 30 minutes or cook to your desire. Let the steak rest for 5-10 minutes. Slice up your flank steak diagonal and serve!
